Chromosome Numbers of Various Organisms

Unfortunately, there is no single source for the (diploid) chromosome numbers of living organisms. However, some of this information can be found at a number of web sites:

"Chromosome Numbers of Selected Organisms"
A web page from Kean College in New Jersey listing animal and plant chromosome numbers

"Animal Genomes"
A French Biotech site with an index to nearly all of the animal genome projects

"Index of Chromosome Lists"
An excellent site with direct links to most ongoing animal genome projects

Some representative sites for various animal genomes:

Chimpanzees
Cattle Genome Map
Dog Genome Project
Horse Genome Map
Pig Genome Map
Rat Genome Map
