New genetic technologies make it possible to modify the genes of plants in a number of ways. Genetically-modified crop plants were described in Chapter 13 of the Dragonfly book, for example.
However, researchers have also turned their attention to flowers, where DNA technology can be used to produce flowers with novel colors and patterns:
