Texas Biology Adoption Winner: The Dragonfly Book

Thanks for Your Support! As you may know, the Dragonfly Book was the hands-down winner in the 2004 Biology Textbook Adoption. Joe Levine and I are spending much of this summer presenting in-service workshops to districts around the State. Unfortunately, we won't be able to come to every district, but we'd still like to welcome you aboard as users of the Texas Edition of our new book.

In the months ahead we will use this web page as a bulletin board for announcments about the adoption, our workshops, and a few "extras" that we're preparing for your and your colleagues.

The first of these, a Texas Handbook for the Dragonfly Book, is available now. We think you'll enjoy our personal guide to some of the features the book has to offer you and your students, and we invite you to download a copy and share it with your colleagues.

Appreciatively,

Ken Miller & Joe Levine

Texas Resources and Updates:

Teacher's Handbook for the Dragonfly

• Correction (7/28/04): Slime Mold caption on page 517

• Corrections (8/6/04): TAKS Handbook

• Does a teacher need to cover the whole book to prepare students for the TAKS exams? Click Here for a letter from Ken Miller to Schulenberg teacher Mona Pelkey on this issue.

Having Difficulties with the iText?

• Most student problems with the web-based iText stem from home computers that lack up-to-date helper software (such as Shockwave and Acrobat). Tell your students to click on the "Run a System Check" button on the iText login page. This will perform a quick check of your computer, and will help you load the software needed to run iText successfully.
