Starting Point:


Examine the 150,000 bases of DNA on chromosome 20 between base 23,550,000 and base 23,700,000.

Note: go the the UCSC browser and type in: chr20:23,550,000-23,700,000).

Scavenger Hunt Assignment:


• How many genes are located in this 150,000 base region?
• Do they seem to be similar, almost like a "family" of genes?
• What are their functions?
• Any functions unknown for any of these genes? If so, which ones?
• Print out the amino acid sequence of the protein produced by one of these genes (using the single letter code)
