Myoglobin

Starting Point:


• One of the most important proteins in the human body is MYOGLOBIN. Myoglobin is found in muscle tissue, where it binds oxygen, helping to provide extra oxygen to release energy to power muscular contractions.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment:

• Type in the word "myoglobin" to the UCSC browser, and then answer the following questions:
• What
is the symbol for the myoglobin gene?
• Where is it located? (Give an exact answer in terms of chromosome number and base pair position)
• What is the function of myoglobin?
• Print out the entire amino acid sequence of myoglobin (using the single letter code).
